Curro Westbrook Primary School | Gqeberha
About the school
A Premier Start in Westbrook Estate
Located in the secure and serene Westbrook Estate in Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth), Curro Westbrook Primary School offers an exceptional educational foundation for learners from Grade R to Grade 7. We provide a nurturing English-medium environment where class sizes are strictly limited to ensuring personal attention. With forward-thinking subjects like Robotics and an optional aftercare service, our goal is to give your child a distinct head start in reaching their dreams.
Bringing Learning to Life
We believe that education is about more than just memorizing facts. While we adhere to the national CAPS curriculum, our teaching methodology is centred on project-based learning and self-discovery. We encourage learners to move beyond the textbook, using research, experiments, and assignments to explore concepts. This approach makes learning "real," helping students understand how their knowledge applies to the world around them.
Structured Stages of Development
The Foundation Phase (Grade R to Grade 3):
We focus on preparing Grade R learners for formal schooling and cementing the essential building blocks of education:
- Language: Reading, spelling, understanding, speaking, and listening.
- Mathematics: Number sense, addition, subtraction, and multiplication.
- Life Skills: Physical education, real-life experiences, problem-solving, and creativity.
The Intermediate Phase (Grade 4 to Grade 7):
As academic work becomes more abstract, we utilize project-based learning to help students investigate concepts deeply. We also introduce Robotics as a subject in Grade 7 to ensure they are future-ready.
Small Classes, Personal Attention
To ensure every child feels seen and supported, we control the number of learners per class to a maximum of 25. This creates an environment where teachers have the time and space to provide personal attention exactly where it is needed, fostering a genuine love for learning and school.
A Balanced Education
At Curro Westbrook, academics are balanced with a vibrant sports and cultural programme. Participation in these activities promotes team awareness, collaboration, and self-confidence. Our offering is tailored to the interests of the Gqeberha community and includes unique activities such as art, drama club, and golf.
A Connected Educational Journey
Joining our family connects you to a wider network of excellence. Learners enjoy preferential placement when applying from any Curro group school. Furthermore, our primary school learners automatically progress to our on-campus high school (unless you choose otherwise). We also maintain a close relationship with the nearby St George’s Preparatory, which offers preschool and primary phases.

Facilities
Flexible and Safe Aftercare
We understand that modern parenting often requires flexibility. Our aftercare service offers a safe haven for learners after school hours, complete with secure classrooms and playgrounds. The service includes professional supervision, limited homework support to assist with academic tasks, and a nutritious lunch to keep energy levels high. For added convenience, we also offer day-visitor and holiday-visitor options, ensuring your child is cared for even when school is out.
Dedicated Learner Support Centre
We believe that every child learns differently. To ensure no one is left behind, our on-site Learner Support Centre provides specialized assistance to Foundation Phase learners. This includes extra classes and access to on-site therapists (remedial, occupational, and speech) who work closely with teachers to help your child succeed. (Please note that support sessions and therapy carry an additional cost).

Curro Mom
-The bullying and overall toxicity at Curro Westbrook Primary School is on another level. What makes it worse is that the school does not seem to follow or enforce its own anti-bullying policies — complaints are not dealt with properly, and there are no real consequences for perpetrators, who continue as if nothing happened. The school leadership appears unwilling to take firm action, and it often feels like the focus is more on fees than learner safety and wellbeing. I would not recommend this school.
