About the school
A Nurturing Start in Westbrook Estate
Nestled in the secure Westbrook Estate of Gqeberha, Curro Westbrook Preschool offers a haven for early childhood development. We provide a high-quality, nurturing environment for children aged 3 months to 5 years. Our classes are carefully divided by age, ensuring that every child receives the care, entertainment, and education appropriate for their developmental stage.
Development Without Pressure: The ELDA Approach
We believe that children flourish when they feel supported rather than pressured. As part of the Curro school group, our approach is built around Early Learning and Development Areas (ELDAs) rather than strict milestones. This ensures that your child is encouraged to develop at their own pace, exploring their physical, social, emotional, and cognitive potential through guided play.
Our holistic curriculum focuses on:
- Identity and Belonging: Fostering personality, friendship, and the spirit of sharing.
- Physical Well-being: Developing balance, movement, and safety awareness.
- Communication: Enhancing speech, listening, and understanding.
- Creativity: Encouraging imagination through drawing, painting, dancing, and play.
- Mathematics: Exploring shapes, sizes, time, and counting.
- Learning About the World: Exploring and understanding the environment around them.
Routine, Stability, and Imagination
Our daily programme is designed to offer "fun within a framework." This routine provides the stability and sense of safety that children crave, while creating ample space for creative activities, running, playing, singing, and dancing.
Loose-Parts Play:
We actively cultivate problem-solving skills and critical thinking through "loose-parts play." Instead of limiting children to single-purpose toys, we encourage them to interact with multi-purpose objects. This stimulates natural curiosity—stacking, rolling, sliding, and fitting objects—laying the groundwork for complex cognitive skills later in life.
Small Classes, Individual Attention
Children need love and nurturing to grow. To ensure this, we strictly control our class sizes, limiting them to between 12 and 25 learners (depending on the age group). Every teacher is supported by one or more assistants, ensuring a high staff-to-child ratio. This balance allows us to give every little one the individual care and affection they need to flourish.
Convenience and Future Pathways
We aim to make life easier for our families. Our school fees include a nutritious breakfast and morning snack, and we offer a reliable aftercare option. Furthermore, joining Curro Westbrook means becoming part of a larger family:
- Learners enjoy preferential placement when applying to any Curro school.
- Children automatically progress to our primary school (unless you choose otherwise).
- We maintain close ties with the nearby St George’s Preparatory, which also offers preschool and primary phases.
Extramural Activities
While our daily programme is packed with physical and cognitive play, we also offer optional extramural activities hosted by external tutors on our premises. Tailored to the interests of our Gqeberha families, these activities provide wonderful opportunities for your child to excel in areas they truly enjoy.
Enroll at Curro Westbrook Preschool today and give your child a foundation built on love, curiosity, and excellence.
Facilities
Supporting Working Families Year-Round
We understand the demands of modern parenting. To accommodate your busy schedule, we offer early drop-off times where children are warmly welcomed for free play before the school day begins. Our aftercare service extends until late in the afternoon, keeping your child safe in classrooms or on the playground until you are ready to collect them. For your peace of mind, we maintain strict pickup protocols, ensuring children are released only to authorized individuals.
Holiday Care at No Extra Cost:
Because working parents don't get school holidays, neither do we. Our preschool remains open during school holidays with a full holiday-care programme included in your fees. This ensures your child’s development continues through fun, engaging activities. We are closed only for a short, specified period during December and January.
Nutritious, On-Site Catering
Healthy bodies fuel healthy minds. Our school fees include a nutritious breakfast and a morning snack. All meals are freshly prepared daily in our on-site kitchen and delivered directly to the classrooms. We take great care to accommodate allergies and dietary requirements, ensuring that every meal is safe and suitable for your child.
Individualized Attention and Safety
We believe every child deserves to be seen and supported. Our classes are divided by age, and every teacher is assisted by one or more dedicated staff members. We maintain higher staff ratios for babies and younger children, ensuring they receive the unique care and cuddling they need.
Health and Safety Measures:
- First Aid Trained: Active play sometimes leads to bumps and bruises, which is why all our teachers are trained in first aid.
- Medication Policy: We adhere strictly to national regulations. We will only dispense medicine in class if provided with a valid prescription signed by a medical doctor.
Partners in Your Child's Growth
We value the relationship between home and school. Our teachers form close bonds with every learner, allowing them to monitor individual adjustment and progress. We keep you informed through:
- Daily Communication Books: A record of your child’s day, including meals, naps, drinks, and emotional state.
- Termly Reports: Detailed progress reports followed by one-on-one parent meetings.
Inspiring Spaces and Fantasy Play
We view our classrooms as "inanimate teachers." They are designed to be visually and tactilely stimulating, offering maximum room for movement and play. A highlight of our facility is the Cinderella Room, a dedicated fantasy-play area that provides a magical indoor alternative on days when the weather doesn't allow for outdoor fun. By engaging with these dynamic spaces, your child learns and develops even while simply enjoying lounge time with friends.
