Curro Aurora has a high school in Sundowner, Randburg. We provide the excellent Curro education to learners from Grade 8 to Grade 12, at the end of which they write the IEB exams. We limit our class sizes to make sure learners get personal attention, and they benefit from having isiZulu and Robotics as subjects. That is why our approach to teaching the national CAPS curriculum is based on project-based learning and self-discovery. This approach allows our high school learners to explore the learning material beyond just the textbook through research, experiments and assignments, while preparing them for the IEB exams in Grade 12. Regular assessments and tests still take place, but it’s important to us that learners can use their intellectual abilities to make the material real to them in some way. This teaches learners to take initiative and make connections between pieces of knowledge – which further develops critical-thinking and problem-solving skills. As part of the Curro school group, our learners enjoy preference when applying to any school in the group. Nearby primary schools include Curro Wilgeheuwel, Cooper College, Curro Krugersdorp, Meridian Cosmo City, Northriding College. Our senior phase starts by helping Grade 8 learners grow accustomed to the greater workload of higher intensity in high school. We limit the number of learners in each class to ensure that they get individual attention in exactly the places they need. Our learners also receive guidance when choosing their elective subjects at the end of Grade 9. From Grade 10, we prepare learners for the IEB exams in Grade 12. However, we focus on more than just assessments, by applying the work to real-life situations. This helps learners to understand the work much better, and further empowers them with knowledge and skills to become the leaders of the future. Teaching takes place in English, and learners can choose Afrikaans and Sepedi as additional language options. They also have Robotics and IT as subjects. As part of the Curro school group, we take education to the next level. Our technology and engineering subject areas in particular expose learners to 3D printing, laser cutting, and VR gaming. We also have a learner support centre where therapists assess and support learners who need development or refining in certain areas. Our learners can choose elective subjects beyond what is offered at our school. These subjects take place digitally and are presented live by Curro teachers. Lessons are scheduled during the school day, with supervised self-directed sessions after hours. These subjects can be seen as an extension of the excellent Curro education your child gets with us, and they still write the IEB exam at the end of Grade 12. Our school transport service consists of two bus routes, one-way or return. This service is available at an additional cost as stipulated on our fees letter. We created a safe, modern environment where learners can grow used to learning and working with modern equipment and facilities. As part of our commitment to giving your child the excellent Curro education, our classrooms are designed for good concentration and for learners to interact with the material they are learning. We have the following specialised classrooms: Consumer Studies kitchen Learner support centre Reading room for foundation phase Resource centre for homework, assignments, and small events Robotics and IT lab We have a highly specialised range of sports and cultural activities, all hosted in our excellent on-campus facilities. These range from expected fields and courts to highly-tailored academies. This team includes occupational and speech therapists and two educational psychologists. The team conducts academic screenings, assessments to determine concession needs, long-term play therapy, counselling, dyslexia assessments, and so much more. They work closely with teachers to recognise when a learner might benefit from their services. Parents are contacted via email with the relevant contact details, and you may then choose to further the discussion. Our speech therapist deals with concerns relating to pronunciation, auditory processing, letter and sound recognition, and several other foundational skills of reading and speaking, while the occupational therapy team supports learners who struggle with physical, cognitive, or perceptual barriers that impact learners’ functioning in the classroom.
