A Legacy of Excellence: St. George’s Preparatory School
Founded in 1936 by Raymond Hutchinson, St. George’s Preparatory School has a long-standing reputation for providing quality private education. Originally established for boys aged 7 to 14, the school has evolved to include a Pre-Preparatory phase (established in 2000) and a Preparatory phase (established in 2001).
Knockfierna: A Historic Home for Learning
Our school is housed in Knockfierna, a magnificent Victorian mansion originally built in 1899 by John Daverin, a successful wool merchant from Ireland. This stunning building, meaning "Hill of Fairies or Truth", is steeped in history and provides a unique and inspiring setting for learning.
Imagine your child exploring the very rooms where history unfolded – from the original billiard room, now the dining hall, to the Executive Head’s office, once the Daverin family’s dining room. The echoes of the past resonate throughout Knockfierna, creating a truly special learning environment.
Even the features of the building whisper tales of the past. The tiles on the stoep and entrance hall were shipped from Bath in England. The large elaborate mirror was bought in Vienna. The rings on which to tether the horses can still be seen on the wall in Grade 1 and Grade 2 classrooms.
At St. George's, we blend our rich heritage with a forward-thinking approach to education, providing your child with the best of both worlds. We invite you to visit us and experience the magic of St. George's for yourself.
