Children learn by discovering the world around them – and anything learned while playing at a young age is remembered much faster and more efficiently compared to anything learned while sitting at a table in a forced learning environment.
As part of the Curro school group, our children enjoy a programme that supports their physical, social, emotional and cognitive well-being. This approach to early childhood development is built around learning and developing through play rather than strict milestones. This means that children feel supported and encouraged instead of anxious and pressured to develop at someone else’s pace.
Here are some examples of the areas that are developed by learning through play:
Mathematics: shapes, size, time, counting, adding, subtracting
Communication: speech, listening, reading, understanding
Creativity: drawing, painting, correct pinching of a pencil, dancing
Physical well-being: balance, movement, safety
Identity and belonging: personality, morals, caring, friendship, sharing

As part of the Curro school group, learners enjoy preference when applying to us from any school in the group. Nearby Curro Westbrook has a preschool phase from which children could easily progress to us – they also have a high school to which our primary school learners could progress.
We help your child get ready for the formal learning that starts in Grade 1. They learn the basic foundations on which all further learning is based:
Language (read, spell, understand, speak, listen)
Mathematics (count, understand numbers, addition, subtraction and multiplication)
Life skills (physical education, real-life experiences, problem-solving, creativity)
Teaching takes place in English, and learners can even have Robotics as a subject.

Facilities
We accommodate working parents with a challenging commute by opening early in the morning. Children are welcomed by their teachers or teacher’s assistants and enjoy some free play before the preschool programme starts later on. Our aftercare service is available at an additional cost, as stated on our fees letter. Your child is kept safe in their classroom or play areas until you are ready to pick them up.
Our fees include breakfast and lunch, which are freshly prepared by a catering service. They also carefully accommodate allergies and other dietary requirements, although we might request a medical letter for severe dietary requirements. This is just to ensure that our caterer can correctly interpret and prepare food for your child.
As a preschool in PE Central, Gqeberha, we understand that working parents don’t get school holidays, which might pose a challenge when children are at home. That is why our preschool remains open during school holidays with a full holiday-care programme at no additional cost. Regular activities continue, although we may arrange some extra fun activities during this time. We are closed only for a specified period during December and January.
Our classes are divided by age and each teacher has one or more assistants, depending on the group and the number of children in the class. This ensures that each child gets the care and attention they need, and that they can optimally benefit from our preschool programme.
Children wholeheartedly run, play, climb, and jump, which may sometimes lead to minor bumps and bruises. This is why all our teachers are trained in first aid. Please note that national regulations prohibit teachers from dispensing any medicine, even over-the-counter or herbal tonics, without a valid prescription signed by a medical doctor. Therefore, when a child needs medicine during the day, our first-aid officers dispense medicine in class only if a valid prescription is provided.
Children need to run and play during the day to ensure good emotional and physical health. This is a great part of early childhood development. Our outdoor play areas include jungle gyms, playhouses, sandpit, mud house, bike track and various outdoor/indoor sensory play areas.
Should a child show indications that they might need additional support, our learner support department provides such support from our on-site team of therapists. The team consists of a language therapist, speech therapists, and an occupational therapist and they operate at an additional cost. In addition to being convenient for parents – sessions take place during school hours – our therapists work alongside class teachers and can observe how children develop during the term.
