An Innovative Approach to Learning: Project-Based Excellence
Our commitment to providing an excellent education goes hand-in-hand with an innovative teaching philosophy. At Curro Pretoria, our approach to the national CAPS curriculum is rooted in engaging project-based learning and transformative self-discovery. We encourage our high school students to delve deeper into learning material, venturing far beyond the confines of a textbook through exciting research projects, hands-on experiments, and stimulating assignments.
While preparing students rigorously for the NSC exams in Grade 12, we also prioritise the development of crucial intellectual abilities. Regular assessments and tests are part of our structure, but it’s paramount that students can apply their knowledge, making the material relevant and real to them. This empowers learners to take initiative, forge connections between different areas of knowledge, and significantly enhance their critical-thinking and problem-solving skills – essential competencies for a rapidly evolving world.
The Senior Phase Journey: Guidance and Real-World Application
The senior phase at Curro Pretoria is thoughtfully designed to support and guide students through their crucial high school years. We begin by helping Grade 8 learners smoothly transition and comfortably adapt to the increased academic rigour and workload of high school. Our limited class sizes remain a cornerstone of this support, ensuring that every student receives the individual attention precisely where it's needed most.
As part of the Curro family, our students benefit from expert guidance when making pivotal elective subject choices at the end of Grade 9. From Grade 10 onwards, while meticulously preparing students for the Grade 12 NSC examinations, our focus extends beyond mere assessments. We integrate real-life situations and practical applications into our lessons, helping students to grasp complex concepts more profoundly and empowering them with the knowledge and skills to become true leaders of the future.
English is the language of instruction, and students have the enriching opportunity to choose:
- Afrikaans as an additional language option.
- Sepedi as an additional language option.
- Tourism as a subject in Grade 12.

-I’m deeply disheartened by my experience with Curro Pretoria. In my view, the Primary School Principal, Mr Du Pooly, is not suited to a leadership role, and I experienced his approach as intimidating and unprofessional. The school also appears to have an unusually high staff turnover — with some teachers not even completing the first term. From what I’ve seen, appointments often seem based on personal connections rather than prioritising better-qualified staff for the learners. In my experience, a child can be spoken to harshly and embarrassed in class in front of their peers by an adult teacher. I’ve also witnessed inadequate supervision on the premises, including children fighting with no adult supervision in sight. Sporting options and resources also feel limited, with only netball, rugby, and soccer available. Overall, the school feels more like a money-making exercise than a learner-centred environment. On two occasions, photos of my children were posted on Facebook without my consent. When I raised concerns, I did not feel listened to — it felt as though the school was more focused on maintaining an image than addressing real issues. I would not recommend Curro Pretoria to other parents. If I could, I would rate it half a star.
