About the school
Curro Heritage House has a primary school in Morningside, Durban, that provides high-quality education to learners from Grade R to Grade 7. With small class sizes, dedicated teachers and an enhanced curriculum, we empower learners with 21st-century skills and knowledge to grow into high-performing, self-confident individuals who are ready to become the leaders of the future.
Our foundation phase starts by providing the emotional and intellectual foundation required to handle the formal learning that starts in Grade 1. We then gradually develop learners’ skills and knowledge in basic areas, such as language (comprehension, speaking and listening), mathematics (counting and understanding numbers), and creative problem-solving, in an environment to which they enjoy coming. Furthermore, as a Curro School, our learners even benefit from being introduced to Robotics and having Afrikaans and isiZulu as additional language options.
In these grades, learners are taught to work with the learned material in an abstract manner. The nature of the content gradually builds from being tangible and real to more intellectual and abstract. Our small class sizes and enhanced curriculum provide learners with an inherent dedication to hard work and excellence, as well as 21st-century skills through specialised subjects such as Information Technology and Robotics.
As a Curro School, we are committed to providing learners with an excellent education. Therefore, our approach to teaching the national CAPS curriculum is based on project-based learning and self-discovery. This approach allows learners to interact with the learned material or discover the core concepts themselves. Regular assessments and tests still take place, but we focus on ensuring that learners can use their intellectual abilities to discover the material and make it real to them in some way. This further provides them with 21st-century skills such as problem-solving, research and self-initiated proactive action. Due to our small class sizes, learners each have access to our state-of-the-art equipment and tools in subjects such as Robotics and Natural Sciences.
Facilities
Our aftercare service is available for primary school learners at an additional cost, as stipulated on our fees letter (see Downloads). Learners are accommodated in safe classrooms and playgrounds, and the fees include a light snack as well as limited homework support.
As a Curro School, we have created a safe, modern environment where children can grow accustomed to learning and working with modern equipment and facilities. Our classrooms are equipped with whiteboards, projectors, computers and air conditioning. We also have a computer laboratory and library. Classrooms for enhanced curriculum subjects, such as Technology and Physical Sciences, are equipped with learning tools that provide learners with 21st-century skills.
