About the school

Curro Brackenfell has a preschool in Sonkring, the suburban heart of Brackenfell. We offer a preschool programme designed by Curro that grants an excellent early childhood development for children from 3 months to 5 years old. W e have English and Afrikaans classes, an early drop-off time, a weekly theme that has many fun activities, and we are open during the holidays! Our teachers also have assistants in each class and have termly one-on-one meetings with parents. Discover our daily programme and what's included by viewing our fact sheet. Children learn by discovering the world around them – and anything learned while playing at a young age is remembered much faster and more efficiently compared to anything learned while sitting at a table in a forced learning environment. As part of the Curro school group, our children enjoy a programme that supports their physical, social, emotional and cognitive well-being. This approach to early childhood development is built around learning and developing through play rather than strict milestones. This means that children feel supported and encouraged instead of anxious and pressured to develop at someone else’s pace. Learning during childhood starts with babies exploring their touch and taste sense while playing with squishy pasta, jelly, and other texture-rich objects. Later on, young toddlers learn the basics of mathematics by playing with building blocks, balls, manipulating objects around their bodies, and other ways. Older toddlers learn the basics of writing and reading with comprehension by drawing, painting, singing, and generally discovering objects that centre around a specific theme. Here are some examples of the areas that are developed by learning through play: Mathematics: shapes, size, time, counting, adding, subtracting Communication: speech, listening, reading, understanding Creativity: drawing, painting, correct pinching of a pencil, dancing Physical well-being: balance, movement, safety Identity and belonging: personality, morals, caring, friendship, sharing As part of the Curro school group, learners enjoy preference when applying to us from any school in the group. Nearby schools that also have preschools include Curro Durbanville , Curro Rosen Castle, and Meridian Pinehurst, with Curro Century City, Curro Burgundy and Curro Sandown a bit further away. Our primary school has a very strong Robotics programme, as a subject in our curriculum and as an extramural activity. Robotics does more than teach coding and programming. It teaches critical thinking, problem solving, perseverance, team work, and many more soft skills that benefit your child far beyond the classroom. This is why our 5-year olds have Robotics as part of their daily programmes. This revolves around playing with blocks to create a ‘robot’ of sorts, and following a sequence of steps to make the robot character come to life. This process introduces to them the realisation that on-screen actions have real-life impacts. Our daily programme is packed with a variety of physical and cognitive activities where children play while they learn. We also offer additional, optional extramural activities as additional opportunities to strengthen focused areas or hone certain skills. Our extramural activities are offered by external tutors or coaches at an additional cost and take place on the school’s premises. As a preschool in Sonkring, Brackenfell, these extramural activities are tailored to the interests of you and your family. This ensures that your child can grow and excel in areas that they truly enjoy. Your child is sure to find something that will pique their interest. Facilities

As a preschool in Sonkring, the suburban heart of Brackenfell, we understand that working parents don’t get school holidays, which might pose a challenge when children are at home. That is why our preschool remains open during school holidays with a full holiday-care programme at a minimal additional cost, just to cover the cost of very fun activities we arrange during this time. We are closed only for a specified period during December and January. Our school fees include breakfast, lunch, and a morning snack. These meals are freshly prepared in our on-site kitchen and are delivered to class in time for snack time or meal time. We also carefully accommodate allergies and other dietary requirements, although we might request a medical letter for severe dietary requirements. This is just to ensure that our kitchen staff can correctly interpret and prepare food for your child. We accommodate working parents with a challenging commute by opening early in the morning. Children are welcomed by their teachers or teacher’s assistants and enjoy some free play before the preschool programme starts later on. Our classes are divided by age and each teacher has one or more assistants, depending on the group and the number of children in the class. This ensures that each child gets the care and attention they need, and that they can optimally benefit from our preschool programme. There are often more assistants for the younger ones and babies, as they have needs that are unique from any other age groups. Children wholeheartedly run, play, climb, and jump, which may sometimes lead to minor bumps and bruises. This is why our teachers are trained in first aid. Please note that national regulations prohibit teachers from dispensing any medicine, even over-the-counter or herbal tonics, without a valid prescription signed by a medical doctor. Therefore, when a child needs medicine during the day, our first-aid officers dispense medicine in class only if a valid prescription is provided. Our teachers form close relationships with each child, which allows them to know the individual adjustment and progress of your child. At the end of each term, we issue an adjustment or progress report, and have a one-on-one with each parent. Your child’s day is also recorded in a communication book, which is sent home each day. This includes meals eaten, drinks consumed, naps taken, emotional state, and more. Curro Brackenfell has a preschool in Sonkring, the suburban heart of Brackenfell. We offer a preschool programme designed by Curro that grants an excellent early childhood development for children of 5 years old. We carefully control the number of children per class to ensure that they are all cared for and entertained.
