Curro Sport is proud to unveil the Curro Podium Relay Series, the next leap for one of South Africa’s most exciting school athletics platforms. Built on a simple idea — create real opportunities for young athletes to compete, grow and shine — Podium has already helped learners progress from school tracks to national teams. Now, teams get their turn to chase glory together.

What’s new: the Relay Series (teams of four, big-stage energy)

Two regional showcases headline the launch:

  • Southern Regionals: Sat, 28 Nov 2025 — Curro Durbanville, Durbanville

  • Northern Regionals: Wed, 3 Dec 2025 — Tuks Athletics Stadium, University of Pretoria

Why relays? Because speed meets strategy when the baton changes hands. The Relay Series celebrates unity, trust and timing — four athletes, one heartbeat, one finish line.

Who can enter

  • Primary schools: boys, girls and mixed teams

  • High schools: boys, girls and mixed teams

  • Universities & clubs: male, female and mixed teams SA School Sports

Age groups & events

  • Age groups: U11, U13, U15, U17 and Open

  • Events: 4×100 m, 4×400 m and medley relays

  • Format: Up to 24 teams per category; each programme runs about 90 minutes — fast, focused and spectator-friendly.

2025 Curro Podium (track & field) — key fixtures

  • Northern Regionals: Fri, 19 Sep 2025 — Pilditch Stadium, Tshwane

  • Curro Podium (Dal Josafat meet): Fri, 24 Oct 2025 — Dal Josafat Athletics Stadium, Paarl

  • Southern Regionals: Sat, 25 Oct 2025 — Dal Josafat Athletics Stadium, Paarl

The high-school series runs boys, girls and combined team categories (U15, U17, U19). Squads consist of 14 athletes, with athletes limited to two individual events to keep competition balanced and strategic. Schools can also build depth through regional events.

“Every child matters” — and the podium proves it

“When we started with Podium, one of our goals was to create a platform to produce champions,” says Cindy van der Merwe, Portfolio Manager: Curro Sport. “This has already happened with learners representing the country and breaking African Championship records.”

Why it matters

The Curro Podium ecosystem now spans primary through high school, with a new primary-school component (ages 7–13) opening the pipeline even earlier — and a grand finale planned for February 2026 at Pilditch Stadium. It’s a clear pathway from schoolyard promise to national potential.

How to get your team to the start line

  • Speak to your school’s sports coordinator to confirm entries and team selection.

  • Coaches: finalise relay squads early and rehearse baton exchanges — clean passes win races.

See you on the track. Bring your baton — and your best. 🏃🏽‍♀️🏃‍♂️
