About the school

Welcome to Woodhill College Preschool: Nurturing Bright Futures in Pretorius Park

At Woodhill College Preschool, located in the heart of Pretorius Park, Pretoria, we provide a stimulating and supportive environment where young minds flourish. We offer a high-quality early childhood development programme for children from 2 years (turning 3) to Grade R, laying a strong foundation for lifelong learning.

Small Classes, Individualized Attention

Our age-appropriate classes are carefully structured with a limited number of children, ensuring that each child receives the individual care, attention, and nurturing they deserve. Our dedicated teachers, often assisted by experienced aides, create a warm and engaging atmosphere where children feel safe, loved, and encouraged to explore.

Learning Through Play: A World of Discovery

We believe that children learn best through play. Our internally developed preschool programme is designed to ignite their natural curiosity and love of play while supporting their holistic well-being. We focus on learning and developing through engaging activities, fostering a love of learning without pressure.

Through play, children develop essential skills in:

  • Mathematics: Exploring shapes, sizes, time, counting, adding, and subtracting through playful activities.
  • Communication: Enhancing speech, listening skills, reading readiness, and comprehension through interactive games and storytelling.
  • Creativity: Expressing themselves through drawing, painting, dancing, and developing fine motor skills.
  • Physical Well-being: Improving balance, coordination, movement, and developing an awareness of safety.
  • Identity and Belonging: Nurturing personality, morals, caring, friendship, and sharing.

Preparing for Future Success

We gently guide your child towards formal learning, equipping them with the fundamental skills they need to thrive in Grade 1 and beyond. Our programme focuses on developing:

  • Language: Reading, spelling, understanding, speaking, and listening skills.
  • Mathematics: Counting, understanding numbers, addition, subtraction, and an introduction to multiplication.
  • Life Skills: Physical education, real-life experiences, problem-solving abilities, and creative thinking.

Our teaching takes place in English, and we even offer Robotics as a subject to foster innovation and problem-solving skills.

Seamless Transition and Part of the Curro Family

As part of the esteemed Curro school group, our preschool children enjoy automatic progression to our primary school (and subsequently, high school), ensuring a seamless transition and continuity in their education. Being part of the Curro family also grants preference when applying from other Curro schools. Nearby preschools in our group include Curro Academy The Blyde and Curro Hazeldean.

Convenient and Enriching Options

We offer early drop-off times and aftercare to accommodate busy schedules. In addition, we provide a variety of optional extramural activities, led by external tutors and coaches on our premises (at an additional cost), allowing your child to explore their interests and talents.

Facilities

Supporting Working Families

We understand that modern parenting requires flexibility. To accommodate the challenging commutes of working parents, we open early in the morning, welcoming children with free play before the structured day begins. Additionally, we offer an aftercare service (available to children from Group 4 at an additional cost) to keep your child safe and engaged until you are ready to pick them up.

Holiday Care:
Because working parents don't get school holidays, neither do we. Our preschool remains open during the holidays with a dedicated holiday care programme. This service is free for children in Group 3, while a fee applies for children from Group 4 onwards. We are closed only for a specified period during December and January.

Nutritious, Freshly Prepared Meals

Our on-site kitchen is fully equipped to fuel growing bodies with well-balanced meals. School fees include breakfast, lunch, and two snacks per day. These are prepared with fresh ingredients just before serving and cater to all age groups.

We take dietary requirements seriously:

  • Allergies & Religion: We accommodate allergies and religious dietary needs, including Halal meals upon request.
  • Safety First: To ensure safety, we prefer snacks are not packed from home. Instead, we provide party packs (at an additional cost) and bake cupcakes for birthday rings, allowing children to decorate their own treats in a safe, controlled environment.

A Safe and Nurturing Environment

Your child’s well-being is our priority. We maintain a registered nurse on-site, and all our teachers are trained in first aid to handle the minor bumps and bruises that come with active play. We strictly adhere to medical regulations and will only dispense medicine if a valid prescription is provided.

Personalized Attention:
Our classes are divided by age with controlled sizes to ensure every child feels loved. With a child-to-staff ratio between 1:6 and 1:12.5, and assistants in every class (more for the younger groups), your child receives optimal care and attention.

Inspiring Indoor Spaces

In line with the Curiosity Approach, our classrooms act as a "third teacher." We have replaced restrictive plastic furniture with natural elements, creating a tranquil atmosphere that reduces overstimulation. Rather than sitting at tables, children are free to explore themed play areas that align with their natural interests. We also feature child-friendly bathrooms to make toilet training a seamless and positive experience.

Wonderful Outdoor Play Areas

We believe that fresh air and physical play are vital for emotional and physical health. Our outdoor spaces are designed with synthetic grass to prevent allergies and include a variety of zones to spark imagination:

  • Jungle gyms and balancing beams
  • Mud kitchen and sandpits
  • Fruit and vegetable garden
  • Fairy garden and music room
  • Motorcycle and kick-bike track

Additional Support Services

Door-to-Door Transport:
We offer a transport service that picks up and drops off children directly at your home. (Please contact us to confirm if your specific address falls within our covered routes, such as Garsfontein, Moreleta Park, Silverlakes, and Olympus).

Learner Support Centre:
We understand that every child's journey is unique. Our on-site learner support team includes a remedial coordinator, educational psychologist, occupational therapist
