About the school
A Nurturing Start in Randburg
Sharonlea Childcare and Pre-primary offers a warm, safe, and stimulating environment in Randburg for children aged 3 months to 5 years. We are dedicated to high-quality early childhood development, ensuring that our class sizes are carefully controlled so every child receives the personal care, entertainment, and attention they deserve. To make life easier for working parents, we offer early drop-off times and a convenient transport service that includes pick-up and drop-off directly at your home.
Learning Through Play: The Natural Way
We believe that children learn best when they are discovering the world around them, not when they are forced to sit at a table. Research shows that skills learned through play are remembered faster and more efficiently. As part of the Curro school group, our programme prioritizes physical, social, emotional, and cognitive well-being without the pressure of strict milestones.
Our age-appropriate approach includes:
- Babies: Developing senses by exploring textures like squishy pasta, jelly, and other tactile objects.
- Young Toddlers: Learning the basics of mathematics and spatial awareness through building blocks and ball play.
- Older Toddlers: discovering literacy and writing foundations by drawing, painting, and exploring themes.
Key Development Areas
Our curriculum is designed to foster holistic growth across five key areas:
- Mathematics: Understanding shapes, size, time, counting, and arithmetic.
- Communication: Developing speech, listening, reading, and comprehension skills.
- Creativity: Encouraging expression through drawing, painting, dancing, and fine motor control.
- Physical Well-being: Focusing on balance, movement, and safety.
- Identity and Belonging: Cultivating personality, morals, friendship, and sharing.
Seamless Education Pathways
Your child’s journey doesn’t end with preschool. Our learners automatically progress to the nearby Northriding College (unless you choose otherwise). Additionally, being part of the Curro family means you enjoy preferential placement at other nearby group schools, including Curro Aurora, Cooper College, Meridian Cosmo City, and Curro Wilgeheuwel.
Specialized Support and Wellness
We understand that every child is unique and some may need a little extra support. Through our relationship with the neighbouring Northriding College, our families have access to their Wellness Centre. This facility offers various forms of therapy in designated rooms, including occupational therapy, counselling, and speech, language, and hearing therapy (available at an additional cost).
We also welcome external therapists to observe children during the school day, encouraging close collaboration between parents, therapists, and teachers to ensure the best outcome for your child.
Extramural Activities
While our daily programme is packed with physical and cognitive play, we also offer optional extramural activities hosted by external tutors on our premises. Tailored to the interests of our Sharonlea community, these activities allow your child to hone specific skills and discover new passions in a familiar, safe environment.
Facilities
Peace of Mind Year-Round
We understand that for working parents, business hours don't stop when school terms end. That is why Sharonlea Childcare and Pre-primary remains open throughout the school holidays. We offer a full holiday-care programme at no additional cost, ensuring your child continues their development through fun, engaging activities. We only close for a short, specified period during December and January.
Nutritious, On-Site Catering
Healthy bodies fuel healthy minds. Our school fees include all meals, snacks, and refreshments. Everything is freshly prepared daily in our on-site kitchen and delivered to the classrooms. We take great care to accommodate allergies and dietary requirements, ensuring that every meal is safe, nutritious, and enjoyed by your child.
Supporting Busy Families
We aim to make your daily logistics as smooth as possible:
- Early Drop-off: We open early to accommodate your commute. Children are warmly welcomed by their teachers and enjoy supervised free play before the structured programme begins.
- School Transport: For families residing within a 5km radius of the school, we offer a transport service (subject to availability and interest) at an additional cost.
Individualized Care and Safety
Your child’s well-being is our top priority. Our classes are divided by age, and every teacher is supported by one or more assistants. We maintain higher staff ratios for babies and younger ones to ensure they get the unique care and nurturing they need.
Health and Safety Measures:
- First Aid Training: All teachers are trained in first aid to handle minor bumps and bruises immediately.
- On-Site Nurse: A registered nurse visits the campus once a week to monitor health standards.
- Medication Policy: We adhere to strict national regulations and will only dispense medicine if a valid prescription signed by a doctor is provided.
Inspiring Learning Environments
The "Third Teacher"
We believe that the environment itself plays a crucial role in learning. Our classrooms are designed as "inanimate teachers"—spaces that stimulate visual and tactile senses while allowing maximum room for movement and play. Even during quiet lounge time, your child is engaged by their surroundings.
Outdoor Adventures
Children learn best when interacting with the world. Our outdoor play areas feature synthetic grass to prevent allergies and are designed to encourage physical development. We are mindful of the weather, ensuring children play outside only in moderate conditions with appropriate safety measures on sunny days.
Our outdoor facilities include:
- Jungle gyms and playhouses
- Vegetable and herb garden
- Water and sand stations
- Seesaws
