Children need lots of attention and nurturing. That is why our classes are divided by age, and we carefully control the number of children in each class to be no more than 20 to 25 (based on age). Our teachers also have one or more assistants, depending on the age group and number of children in the class. By having a limited number of children in class, our teachers can give each one the individual care and attention they need to flourish and feel loved.
As part of the Curro school group, our children automatically progress to our primary school, unless they apply elsewhere. They also get preference when applying to any schools in the group. Nearby primary schools include The King’s School Linbro Park, Meridian Cosmo City, Curro Rivonia, Curro Douglasdale, Curro Aurora and Curro Academy Wilgeheuwel, with Curro Krugersdorp a bit further away.
As part of the Curro school group, our children enjoy a programme that supports their physical, social, emotional and cognitive well-being. This approach to early childhood development is built around Early Learning and Development Areas (ELDAs), which focus on development areas rather than strict milestones. This means that children feel supported and encouraged instead of pressured to develop at someone else’s pace. Children spend the day playing and being creative while teachers and teacher’s assistants guide them through the activities to ensure that the ELDA areas are engaged.
The learning and development areas include the following:
Identity and belonging: personality, friendship, sharing
Physical well-being: balance, movement, safety
Communication: speech, listening, understanding
Creativity: playing, drawing, painting, dancing, imagination
Mathematics: shapes, size, time, counting
Learning about the world: exploring and understanding the world around them
The development of curiosity and imagination in early childhood is vitally important to the development of problem-solving skills and critical thinking later on. Therefore, as part of our excellent preschool programme, we encourage playing with loose-parts and multi-purpose playthings rather than single-purpose toys that don’t involve much imagination. Through loose-parts play, our children learn to use their natural curiosity to explore previously undiscovered fascinations such as stacking, rolling, sliding, fitting, colours, and more.
Our daily programme is packed with a variety of physical and cognitive activities where children play while they learn. We also offer additional, optional extramural activities as additional opportunities to strengthen focused areas or hone certain skills. Our extramural activities are offered by external tutors or coaches at an additional cost and take place on the school’s premises.
As a pre-primary school in Northriding, these extramural activities are tailored to the interests of you and your family. This ensures that your child can grow and excel in areas that they truly enjoy. Your child is sure to find something that will pique their interest.

Facilities
As a pre-primary school in Northriding, Roodepoort, we understand that working parents don’t get school holidays, which might pose a challenge when children are at home. That is why our preschool remains open during school holidays with a full holiday-care programme at no additional cost. Early childhood development activities continue, although we may arrange some extra fun activities during this time. We are closed only for a specified period during December and January.
We accommodate working parents with a challenging commute by opening early in the morning. Children are welcomed by their teachers or teacher’s assistants and enjoy some free play before the preschool programme starts later on.
Our school fees include breakfast, lunch, juice and tea. These meals are freshly prepared in our on-site kitchen and are delivered to class in time for snack time or meal time. We also carefully accommodate allergies and other dietary requirements, although we might request a medical letter for severe dietary requirements. This is just to ensure that our kitchen staff can correctly interpret and prepare food for your child.
Our school transport service picks your children up and drops them at home, and is available at an additional cost (subject to availability).
This service operates in a 5-km radius around the school along these routes:
Bloubosrand

Our classes are divided by age and each teacher has one or more assistants, depending on the group and the number of children in the class. This ensures that each child gets the care and attention they need, and that they can optimally benefit from our preschool programme. There are often more assistants for the younger ones and babies, as they have needs that are unique from any other age groups.
Children wholeheartedly run, play, climb, and jump, which may sometimes lead to minor bumps and bruises. This is why our teachers are trained in first aid and we have registered nurse on site once a week. Please note that national regulations prohibit teachers from dispensing any medicine, even over-the-counter or herbal tonics, without a valid prescription signed by a medical doctor. Therefore, when a child needs medicine during the day, our first-aid officers or nurse dispense medicine in class only if a valid prescription is provided.
Children learn by interacting with the world around them. That is why our classrooms themselves are considered to be inanimate teachers of sorts, by having maximum room for play and movement while being stimulating on a visual and tactile level. Our outdoor play areas include jungle gyms, veggie and herb garden, and more, while our Groups 2 and 3 classes have their own, separate play areas.
We also have a wellness centre, child-friendly bathrooms, a dedicated cot or bed for each child, and strict pickup permission protocols to ensure the safety of your child.
Each class has one or more class representatives, who help teachers arrange fun days or decorate class areas for special themed weeks or days. The class reps may also take part in efforts or arrangements made by the Representative Parent Committee (RPC). This committee represent parents and to provide advice – they do not make and enforce decisions regarding school matters.
