Our Academic Approach
We are committed to delivering a high-quality education through the national CAPS curriculum, enhanced by a strong focus on project-based learning and self-discovery. This approach allows learners to move beyond textbooks and engage deeply with their studies through research, experiments, and practical assignments.
Regular assessments and tests prepare learners for their final Grade 12 examinations, while also encouraging critical thinking, initiative, and problem-solving skills. Our goal is to help learners make meaningful connections between ideas and develop a lifelong love of learning.
Senior Phase and Subject Choices
The senior phase begins in Grade 8, where learners are supported as they adapt to the increased academic demands of high school. Individual guidance is provided to help learners manage their workload and develop effective study habits.
At the end of Grade 9, learners receive assistance when choosing their elective subjects. From Grade 10 onwards, we focus on thorough preparation for the National Senior Certificate examinations.
Learners also have access to additional elective subjects offered digitally by Curro teachers. These live, online lessons take place during the school day, with supervised self-directed learning sessions after hours. Learners still complete the same final assessments, ensuring a seamless and personalised learning experience.

Imran
-My boarding experience at Meridian Karino High School was very hostile. The guardians assigned to us were harsh and seemed uninterested in the wellbeing of the children in their care. The food was often cold and served in very small portions. Learners with mental health challenges or special needs appeared to be overlooked by staff, to the point that some reached a crisis level, including suicide attempts. Overall, there was a serious lack of empathy and support. Discipline also felt unfair, with unrealistic rules that didn’t take learners’ circumstances into account. A school, especially a boarding environment should be a safe, supportive place for learning and growth, not a space that feels like imprisonment.
