About the school

Excellence in Education in Richards Bay

Grantleigh High School, situated in the heart of Richards Bay, KwaZulu-Natal, offers a premier educational experience that blends academic rigour with a vibrant sports and cultural programme. As an IEB school within the Curro group, we provide English-medium instruction designed to nurture well-rounded individuals. With the added convenience of school transport and a warm, welcoming boarding facility, we offer a safe haven for learners from near and far.

Critical Thinking and IEB Success

We are committed to providing an education that goes beyond rote learning. While we prepare our learners for the internationally recognized IEB Grade 12 exams, our approach to the national CAPS curriculum is rooted in project-based learning and self-discovery. By encouraging research, experiments, and real-world assignments, we help learners connect the dots between textbook theory and real-life application. This fosters the critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and initiative required to become the leaders of the future.

Structured for Growth

The Senior Phase (Grades 8 and 9):
Transitioning to high school is a significant milestone. We help Grade 8 learners adapt to the increased workload and intensity of high school by limiting class sizes to ensure individual attention. We also provide expert guidance at the end of Grade 9 to help learners choose elective subjects that align with their future goals.

The FET Phase (Grades 10 to 12):
Our focus shifts to preparing learners for the IEB exams. However, we believe in empowerment over pressure. By applying work to real-life situations, we ensure learners understand their subjects deeply, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to make a difference in society.

Personalised Subject Choices

We understand that every learner’s career path is unique. Through our personalized learning offering, learners can choose elective subjects beyond those physically offered at the school. These subjects are presented digitally and live by expert Curro teachers during the school day, with supervised self-directed sessions. This allows your child to pursue niche interests while still writing the IEB exam for those subjects.

A Home Away from Home

For families living further afield, our boarding school offers a safe, caring, and comfortable environment. We provide a home away from home where learners can focus on their studies and build lasting friendships, supported by our dedicated staff. We also offer school transport to assist local families with their daily commute.

A Lifelong Connection

Joining Grantleigh means becoming part of a family that lasts a lifetime. Our Curro Alumni network reconnects former matriculants, sharing success stories and offering networking opportunities. We are proud of alumni like Dian Dickson (Class of 2016), now a mechanical engineer, and Leon Qwabe (Class of 2007), founder of the Order Kasi food delivery service. Alumni members also enjoy exclusive benefits, including offers for their own children at selected schools.

Join Grantleigh High School and give your child the advantage of a high-quality IEB education.

Our Heritage: From Humble Beginnings to Educational Excellence

Grantleigh is a school built on passion and community need. Founded in 1996 by Fred and Renette Grant on their Mposa farm, the school began with just 16 nursery-school learners and 5 junior-preparatory learners. In those early days, teaching took place on the founders’ veranda and in their TV room, with swimming lessons in the family pool and cricket on the tennis court.

Driven by a goal to provide a well-rounded education based on Christian values, the school grew rapidly. By 2003, Grantleigh offered Grade R to Grade 12 for the first time. In 2014, we proudly joined the Curro school group as a Curro Select school. Today, we continue to honor our roots while providing world-class education, small class sizes, and a wide range of interests to the Richards Bay community.
