Discover the Magic of Early Learning at Curro Secunda Preschool

Welcome to Curro Secunda, your child's first step on an extraordinary educational journey! Nestled in Secunda, Mpumalanga, our vibrant preschool offers a nurturing and stimulating environment where children aged 3 months to 5 years flourish. We are dedicated to providing high-quality early childhood development, meticulously aligned with the Early Learning and Development Areas (ELDAs), to ensure a holistic foundation for future success.

Nurturing Minds Through Play-Based Exploration

At Curro Secunda, we understand that young children learn best through active discovery and joyful engagement. Our internally developed, play-based curriculum is brought to life by passionate and dedicated teachers in small class sizes. This intimate setting allows our educators to truly know each child, fostering strong, caring relationships and tailoring experiences to individual needs and interests.

Imagine your child learning by exploring the world around them – not through rigid rote memorization, but through the sheer joy of play! Research consistently shows that knowledge gained through playful exploration in early childhood is absorbed faster and remembered more efficiently than information presented in a forced learning environment. From the moment they arrive, children are encouraged to touch, taste, build, create, and question, transforming every activity into a meaningful learning opportunity.

A Seamless Educational Journey

Our preschool is uniquely situated on the same expansive campus as our primary and high schools. This means your child will experience a seamless and comforting transition from preschool to primary school, entering a familiar environment surrounded by friendly faces and established routines. It's a journey designed for continuity and confidence, right from the start.

Holistic Development with a Curro Advantage

As part of the esteemed Curro school group, our children benefit from a comprehensive programme that champions their physical, social, emotional, and cognitive well-being. Our approach to early childhood development is founded on the principle of learning and growing through play, rather than being constrained by strict developmental milestones. This empowering philosophy ensures that every child feels supported and encouraged to develop at their own natural pace, free from anxiety or pressure.

Learning truly begins with sensory exploration! Our babies delight in discovering touch and taste as they play with squishy pasta, wobbly jelly, and a variety of texture-rich objects. As they grow, young toddlers build foundational mathematical concepts by manipulating building blocks, exploring balls, and engaging with objects that spark their curiosity. Older toddlers embark on the exciting path to literacy, developing pre-reading and pre-writing skills through drawing, painting, singing, and imaginative discovery centered around captivating themes.

Key Developmental Areas Cultivated Through Play:

  • Mathematics: Exploring shapes, understanding size, grasping concepts of time, counting, and foundational addition and subtraction.
  • Communication: Developing confident speech, active listening skills, early reading comprehension, and a deep understanding of language.
  • Creativity: Unleashing artistic expression through drawing and painting, mastering the correct pencil grip, and expressing themselves through dance.
  • Physical Well-being: Enhancing balance, coordination, movement skills, and fostering an awareness of personal safety.
  • Identity and Belonging: Nurturing personality, developing strong morals, cultivating caring attitudes, building lasting friendships, and learning the value of sharing.

Enhancing Skills with Enriching Extramural Activities

At Curro Secunda, we firmly believe that participation in extramural activities plays a crucial role in fostering social skills, boosting self-confidence, and promoting overall physical well-being. These enriching activities are thoughtfully offered by external expert tutors or coaches, typically taking place right on the preschool premises for your convenience. Please note that these specialized programmes are available at an additional cost, providing wonderful opportunities for your child to explore new interests and talents.

Facilities

Supporting Working Families Year-Round

We aim to make the logistics of modern parenting as seamless as possible. To support your schedule, we offer early drop-off times as part of our school fees, ensuring your child is settled and happy before your workday begins. For full-day learners, we provide care and entertainment until late in the afternoon.

Holiday Care at No Extra Cost:
Because working parents don't get school holidays, neither do we. Our preschool remains open during school holidays with a full holiday-care programme included in your fees. Regular early childhood development activities continue alongside extra fun, ensuring consistency for your child. We are closed only for a short period of two to three weeks during the December/January holidays.

Individualized Attention and Inspiring Spaces

We believe that every child deserves to be seen and understood. Our classes are divided by age with small class sizes that allow our teachers and assistants to give individual attention to every little one. This structure ensures that specific developmental needs are met as your child grows.

Classrooms that Teach:
We view our classrooms as "inanimate teachers." They are purposefully designed to be visually and tactilely stimulating while allowing maximum room for movement and play. By involving the physical environment in the learning experience, children learn naturally by interacting with the world around them.

Nutritious, On-Site Catering

Healthy bodies fuel healthy minds. Our menu provides well-balanced, wholesome meals that are freshly prepared in our on-site kitchen just before being delivered to the classrooms. We take great care to accommodate allergies and other dietary requirements, ensuring safe and delicious nutrition for every child.

Health, Safety, and Communication

Your child’s well-being and your peace of mind are our top priorities. We maintain a secure and transparent environment through the following measures:

  • On-Site Nurse: Because active children love to run, climb, and jump, bumps and scrapes can happen. We have a registered nurse on-site during the school day to attend to any medical needs or illness immediately.
  • HiMama App: We keep you connected to your child's day through the HiMama communication app. You will receive daily feedback and photos covering curriculum activities, eating and sleeping habits, and emotional well-being.
