As part of the Curro school group, our children enjoy a programme that supports their physical, social, emotional and cognitive well-being. This approach to early childhood development is built around Early Learning and Development Areas (ELDAs), which focus on development areas rather than strict milestones. This means that children feel supported and encouraged instead of pressured to develop at someone else’s pace. Children spend the day playing and being creative while teachers and teacher’s assistants guide them through the activities to ensure that the ELDA areas are engaged.
The learning and development areas include the following:
Identity and belonging: personality, friendship, sharing
Physical well-being: balance, movement, safety
Communication: speech, listening, understanding
Creativity: playing, drawing, painting, dancing, imagination
Mathematics: shapes, size, time, counting
Learning about the world: exploring and understanding the world around them

As part of the Curro school group, learners enjoy preference when applying to us from any school in the group. Should your family locate to Mossel Bay, we help you through the transfer or enrolment process so that your child can quickly feel at home with us.
The development of curiosity and imagination in early childhood is vitally important to the development of problem-solving skills and critical thinking later on. Therefore, as part of our excellent preschool programme, we encourage playing with loose-parts and multi-purpose playthings rather than single-purpose toys that don’t involve much imagination. Through loose-parts play, our children learn to use their natural curiosity to explore previously undiscovered fascinations such as stacking, rolling, sliding, fitting, colours, and more.
Our preschool programme is presented through a daily routine that focuses on letting children learn by having lots of fun within a framework. The schedule creates space for creative activities, running and playing, singing and dancing, and so much more! This also provides children with stability and a sense of safety.

Children need lots of attention and nurturing. That is why our classes are divided by age, and we carefully control the number of children in each class based on age. As part of the Curro school group, our teachers also have one or more assistants, depending on the age group and number of children in the class. By balancing the number of children and teachers in class, your child can get the individual care and attention they need to flourish and feel loved.
Our preschool is built on a balance of values that allow learners to learn and grow into the best versions of themselves. We believe that a good education is the basis on which children can grow to become strong leaders and responsible citizens who will make a positive change in their communities. We consider these values to be practical extensions of early childhood development. Teachers model these values and children follow suit. This is just one of the ways in which we develop the well-being of the whole child.
Our daily programme is packed with a variety of physical and cognitive activities where children play while they learn. We also offer additional, optional extramural activities as additional opportunities to strengthen focused areas or hone certain skills. Our extramural activities are offered by external tutors or coaches at an additional cost and take place on the school’s premises.

Facilities
We accommodate your household’s unique rhythm by having half-day and full-day options. These options have unique fee structures, and the core early childhood development activities mostly take place during the morning. This means that your child will not lose out on any learning if you choose the half-day option – although activities that take place in the afternoons remain developmental in nature.
We accommodate working parents with a challenging commute by opening early in the morning. Children are welcomed by their teachers or teacher’s assistants and enjoy some free play before the preschool programme starts later on.
As a preschool in Heiderand, Mossel Bay, we understand that working parents don’t get school holidays, which might pose a challenge when children are at home. That is why our preschool remains open during school holidays with a full holiday-care programme at no additional cost. Early childhood development activities continue, although we may arrange some extra fun activities during this time. We are closed only for a specified period during December and January.
Our school fees include breakfast, lunch, and snacks. These meals are provided by a catering service and are delivered to class in time for snack time or meal time. We also carefully accommodate allergies and other dietary requirements, although we might request a medical letter for severe dietary requirements. This is just to ensure that our catering service can correctly interpret and prepare food for your child.
Our classes are divided by age and each teacher has one or more assistants, depending on the group and the number of children in the class. This ensures that each child gets the care and attention they need, and that they can optimally benefit from our preschool programme. There are often more assistants for the younger ones and babies, as they have needs that are unique from any other age groups.
Children wholeheartedly run, play, climb, and jump, which may sometimes lead to minor bumps and bruises. This is why our teachers are trained in first aid. Please note that national regulations prohibit teachers from dispensing any medicine, even over-the-counter or herbal tonics, without a valid prescription signed by a medical doctor. Therefore, when a child needs medicine during the day, our first-aid officers or nurse dispense medicine in class only if a valid prescription is provided.
Our teachers form close relationships with each child, which allows them to know the individual adjustment and progress of your child. At the end of each term, we issue an adjustment or progress report, and have a one-on-one with each parent. Your child’s day is also recorded in a communication book, which is sent home each day. This includes meals eaten, drinks consumed, naps taken, emotional state, and more.
