Children learn by discovering the world around them – and anything learned while playing at a young age is remembered much faster and more efficiently compared to anything learned while sitting at a table in a forced learning environment.
As part of the Curro school group, our children enjoy a programme that supports their physical, social, emotional and cognitive well-being. This approach to early childhood development is built around learning and developing through play rather than strict milestones. This means that children feel supported and encouraged instead of anxious and pressured to develop at someone else’s pace.
Learning during childhood starts with babies exploring their touch and taste sense while playing with squishy pasta, jelly, and other texture-rich objects. Later on, young toddlers learn the basics of mathematics by playing with building blocks, balls, manipulating objects around their bodies, and other ways. Older toddlers learn the basics of writing and reading with comprehension by drawing, painting, singing, and generally discovering objects that centre around a specific theme.
Here are some examples of the areas that are developed by learning through play:
Mathematics: shapes, size, time, counting, adding, subtracting
Communication: speech, listening, reading, understanding
Creativity: drawing, painting, correct pinching of a pencil, dancing
Physical well-being: balance, movement, safety
Identity and belonging: personality, morals, caring, friendship, sharing
We help your child get ready for the formal learning that starts in Grade 1. They learn the basic foundations on which all further learning is based:
Language (read, spell, understand, speak, listen)
Mathematics (count, understand numbers, addition, subtraction and multiplication)
Life skills (physical education, real-life experiences, problem-solving, creativity)
Teaching takes place in English, and learners can even have Robotics as a subject.
As part of the Curro school group, learners enjoy preference when applying to us from any school in the group. Our learners could also easily progress to Curro Midrand Halfway Gardens, a school with which we are closely affiliated.
Other nearby such schools with preschool phases include Curro Bryanston, Curro Douglasdale, Curro Fourways, Curro Rivonia, Curro Thatchfield, Curro Waterfall, and The King’s School Linbro Park.
Our daily programme is packed with a variety of physical and cognitive activities where children play while they learn. We also offer additional, optional extramural activities as additional opportunities to strengthen focused areas or hone certain skills. Our extramural activities are offered by external tutors or coaches at an additional cost and take place on the school’s premises.
As a preschool in Noordwyk, Midrand, these extramural activities are tailored to the interests of you and your family. This ensures that your child can grow and excel in areas that they truly enjoy.

Facilities
We accommodate your household’s unique rhythm by having half-day and full-day options. These options have unique fee structures, and the core early childhood development activities mostly take place during the morning. This means that your child will not lose out on any learning if you choose the half-day option – although activities that take place in the afternoons remain developmental in nature.
We accommodate working parents with a challenging commute by opening early in the morning. Children are welcomed by their teachers or teacher’s assistants and enjoy some free play before the preschool programme starts later on.
As a preschool in Noordwyk, Midrand, we understand that working parents don’t get school holidays, which might pose a challenge when children are at home. That is why our preschool remains open during school holidays with a full holiday-care programme at no additional cost. Early childhood development activities continue, although we may arrange some extra fun activities during this time. We are closed only for a specified period during December and January.
Our school fees include breakfast, lunch, and an afternoon snack. These meals are freshly prepared in our on-site kitchen and are delivered to class in time for snack time or meal time. We also carefully accommodate allergies and other dietary requirements, although we might request a medical letter for severe dietary requirements.
We have a school transport service operating in the Midrand area, one-way and return. This service is available at an additional cost, as stipulated on our fees letter.
Our classes are divided by age and each teacher has one or more assistants, depending on the group and the number of children in the class. This ensures that each child gets the care and attention they need, and that they can optimally benefit from our preschool programme.
Children wholeheartedly run, play, climb, and jump, which may sometimes lead to minor bumps and bruises. This is why our teachers are trained in first aid. Please note that national regulations prohibit teachers from dispensing any medicine, even over-the-counter or herbal tonics, without a valid prescription signed by a medical doctor. Therefore, when a child needs medicine during the day, our first-aid officers dispense medicine in class only if a valid prescription is provided.
