The jump between preschool and primary school can be difficult and Grade R learners are still young children at heart. That is why we accommodate Grade R learners in our preschool. They follow a more structured timetable to help them prepare for the formal learning that starts in Grade 1, but they still have plenty of time and room to run and play. They learn the basic foundations of reading, writing and adding and subtraction, physical education, and more. Teaching takes place in English and Afrikaans, and learners have isiZulu, Afrikaans and Setswana as additional languages. Our daily schedule is packed with a variety of physical and cognitive activities where children play while they learn. In addition to those, we offer optional extramural activities as extra opportunities to strengthen focused areas or hone certain skills. That is why our preschool remains open during school holidays with a full holiday-care programme at no additional cost. Early childhood development activities continue, although we may arrange some extra fun activities during this time. We are closed only for a specified period during December and January. We accommodate working parents with a challenging commute by opening early in the morning. Children are welcomed by their teachers or teacher’s assistants and enjoy some free play before the preschool programme starts later on.
