About the school

Curro Heuwelkruin has a preschool in Myngenoegen, Polokwane, that provides high-quality early childhood development for children from 2 years to 5 years. Our classes are divided by age, and we limit the number of children per class to ensure that they are all cared for and entertained. Your child spends their days enjoying our preschool programme by playing, laughing, dancing, and learning while having lots of fun! We also have half-day and full-day options as well as an early drop-off time to accommodate your family’s schedule. Get an overview of everything we can offer you on our fact sheet. Children learn by discovering the world around them – and anything learned while playing at a young age is remembered much faster and more efficiently compared to anything learned while sitting at a table in a forced learning environment. As part of the Curro school group, our children enjoy a programme that supports their physical, social, emotional and cognitive well-being. This approach to early childhood development is built around learning and developing through play rather than strict milestones. This means that children feel supported and encouraged instead of anxious and pressured to develop at someone else’s pace. Learning during childhood starts with babies exploring their touch and taste sense while playing with squishy pasta, jelly, and other texture-rich objects. Later on, young toddlers learn the basics of mathematics by playing with building blocks, balls, manipulating objects around their bodies, and other ways. Older toddlers learn the basics of writing and reading with comprehension by drawing, painting, singing, and generally discovering objects that centre around a specific theme. Here are some examples of the areas that are developed by learning through play: Mathematics: shapes, size, time, counting, adding, subtracting Communication: speech, listening, reading, understanding Creativity: drawing, painting, correct pinching of a pencil, dancing Physical well-being: balance, movement, safety Identity and belonging: personality, morals, caring, friendship, sharing We offer several specialised activities in addition to the ones that take place as part of our preschool programme. These include introduction and later on skills development in music, ballet, tennis, hockey, and more! The specialised activities are offered by private tutors and coaches, and are included in our school fees. View our fact sheet to discover all the activities your child can enjoy with us. Children need lots of attention and nurturing. That is why our classes are divided by age, and there are no more than 15 children per class, based on age. As part of the Curro school group, our teachers also have one or more assistants in each class, depending on the age group and number of children in the class. By balancing the number of children and teachers in class, your child can get the individual care and attention they need to flourish and feel loved. As part of the Curro school group, learners enjoy preference when applying to us from any school in the group. Curro families who move to Polokwane can also easily transfer from their current school to ours! Visit this page on our website to find schools near us. In addition to the activities that take place as part of our preschool programme, we also offer additional, optional extramural activities as additional opportunities to strengthen focused areas or hone certain skills. These extramural activities are offered by external tutors or coaches at an additional cost and take place on the school’s premises. As a preschool in Myngenoegen, these extramural activities are tailored to the interests of you and your family. This ensures that your child can grow and excel in areas that they truly enjoy. Your child is sure to find something that will pique their interest. View our fact sheet to discover our school times, activities, facilities, and everything that’s included in our school fees.

Facilities

We accommodate your household’s unique rhythm by having an aftercare option, which includes lunch. The core early childhood development activities take place during the morning, which means that your child will not lose out on any learning should they not attend aftercare. The activities that take place in the afternoons remain developmental in nature. We accommodate working parents with a challenging commute by opening early in the morning. Children are welcomed by their teachers or teacher’s assistants and enjoy some free play before the preschool programme starts later on. Our classes are divided by age and each teacher has one or more assistants in class, depending on the group and the number of children. This ensures that each child gets the care and attention they need, and that they can optimally benefit from our preschool programme. There are often more assistants for the younger ones and babies, as they have needs that are unique from any other age groups. Children wholeheartedly run, play, climb, and jump, which may sometimes lead to minor bumps and bruises. This is why our designated teachers are trained in first aid. Please note that national regulations prohibit teachers from dispensing any medicine, even over-the-counter or herbal tonics, without a valid prescription signed by a medical doctor. Therefore, when a child needs medicine during the day, our first-aid officers dispense medicine in class only if a valid prescription is provided. Our teachers form close relationships with each child, which allows them to know the individual adjustment and progress of your child. At the end of each term, we issue an adjustment or progress report, and have a one-on-one with each parent. Our teachers stay in touch with you mainly through WhatsApp and by quickly checking in when picking your child up in the afternoons. Should they have any concerns, they could arrange a conversation or give you a call during the day. Children learn by interacting with the world around them. That is why our preschool classrooms themselves are considered to be inanimate teachers of sorts. They are designed to allow maximum room for play and movement while being stimulating on a visual and tactile level. By involving the classroom in the learning experience, your child is engaged in early childhood development even when simply enjoying some lounge time with their friends. Our stunning outdoor play areas include jungle gyms, playhouses, seesaws, a mud kitchen, fantasy corners, sandpits, and more.
