That is why our approach to teaching the national CAPS curriculum is based on project-based learning and self-discovery. This approach allows our primary school learners to explore the learning material beyond just the textbook through research, experiments and assignments. Regular assessments and tests still take place, but it’s important to us that learners can use their intellectual abilities to make the material real to them in some way. This gives learners a head start in their eventual workplace dreams, because they learn to take initiative and making connections between pieces of knowledge. As part of the Curro school group, any enrolled learners enjoy preference when applying to us. Other primary schools in the wider surrounding areas include Curro Sandown, Curro Brackenfell, Curro Century City, Curro Durbanville, and Meridian Pinehurst. Our foundation phase starts by helping Grade R learners get ready for the formal learning that starts in Grade 1. In this phase, they learn the basic foundations on which all further learning is based: Language (read, spell, understand, speak, listen) Mathematics (count, understand numbers, addition, subtraction and multiplication) Life skills (physical education, real-life experiences, problem-solving, creativity) We have a team of therapists who need help in improving their gross and fine motor skills, visual perception and sensory motor skills. By improving their basic skills such as reading, writing, cutting, colouring, and more, they grow confident in other areas of learning. The therapy team works closely with the school and parents and spend individual time with each learner. One part of the excellent Curro education, is that academics are balanced with sports and cultural activities. Participation in activities promote team-awareness, collaboration, and self-confidence. Activities such as chess and drama help learners develop the skills to gather their thoughts and express themselves in creative ways. Our focused variety of activities, such as drama and cycling, are tailored to the interests of learners in our area. Your child is sure to find something that will pique their interest.
