About the school
Nurturing Wonder in the Heart of Bryanston
Located in Bryanston, Sandton, Curro Bryanston offers a sanctuary for early childhood development, welcoming children from 3 months to Grade R. We provide a safe, nurturing environment where class sizes are strictly controlled. This ensures that every child receives the personal care, entertainment, and love they need to flourish.
The Curiosity Approach: Igniting Little Minds
What sets Curro Brackenfell apart is our dedication to the internationally acclaimed Curiosity Approach. Moving away from sterile, over-stimulating classrooms, we have created a sensory-rich atmosphere filled with natural materials and soothing colours. By replacing traditional plastic furniture with authentic items and removing rows of tables and chairs, we create an environment that feels like an extension of home.
When children enter our classrooms, they are drawn to "inviting invitations to learn"—themed stations designed to spark natural interest. While children explore these stations freely, our dedicated teachers guide them, ensuring they gain exposure to a multitude of skills and developmental milestones without the pressure of forced learning.
Learning Through Play
We believe that play is the serious work of childhood. Research shows that children retain information far better when learning is joyful rather than forced. Our programme supports physical, social, emotional, and cognitive well-being through age-appropriate exploration:
- Babies: engage in sensory play, exploring textures like jelly and squishy pasta to develop touch and taste.
- Young Toddlers: grasp mathematical basics through building blocks and spatial manipulation.
- Older Toddlers: develop literacy and writing readiness through painting, singing, and thematic discovery.
Holistic Development Areas
Our play-based curriculum is designed to cover every aspect of your child's growth:
- Mathematics: Shapes, size, time, counting, and arithmetic concepts.
- Communication: Speech, listening skills, and reading comprehension.
- Creativity: Artistic expression, dancing, and fine motor skills (pencil grip).
- Physical Well-being: Balance, movement, and safety awareness.
- Identity and Belonging: Personality development, morals, friendship, and sharing.
Grade R: The Bridge to Formal Schooling
Our Grade R programme provides the vital link between preschool and "big school." While maintaining our engaging play-based philosophy, we equip learners with the academic foundations required for Grade 1:
- Language: Reading, spelling, understanding, speaking, and listening.
- Mathematics: Number sense, addition, subtraction, and multiplication.
- Life Skills: Problem-solving, creativity, physical education, and real-world experience.
Extramural Activities and Future Pathways
To further enrich your child's experience, we offer a variety of optional extramural activities hosted by external tutors on our premises. These are tailored to diverse interests, allowing your child to hone specific skills in a familiar environment.
Additionally, being part of the Curro family offers long-term benefits. Our learners enjoy preferential placement when applying to nearby primary and high schools in the group, including Curro Rivonia, Curro Douglasdale, Curro Fourways, and Curro Chartwell.

Facilities
Exceptional Support for Working Families
At Curro Bryanston, we recognize the demands placed on working parents in the Sandton area. To provide you with total peace of mind, our preschool remains open throughout school holidays at no additional cost. During these times, your child will continue to enjoy engaging early childhood development activities alongside extra-fun holiday highlights. We are closed only for a short, specified period during December and January, ensuring your child has a consistent and safe environment year-round.
Nutritious Catering and Special Celebrations
Healthy nutrition is the cornerstone of a productive day. Our school fees are all-inclusive, covering a well-balanced breakfast, a freshly prepared lunch, and two snacks daily. Every meal is crafted in our fully equipped on-site kitchen using fresh ingredients. Because we maintain small class sizes, we can carefully cater to individual needs, including severe allergies and religious dietary requirements (such as Halaal meals upon request).
We also love to celebrate! To keep our environment safe and allergy-aware, we prefer that snacks are not brought from home. Instead, our kitchen bakes delicious cupcakes for birthday rings, where children get the joy of decorating their own treats. Parents can also conveniently order party packs through the school, ensuring every child can participate safely in the festivities.
A Nurturing Team and Low Staff-to-Child Ratios
We believe that every child deserves to feel seen, heard, and loved. Our classes are strictly divided by age to ensure developmentally appropriate care. With a staff-to-child ratio ranging from 1:6 to 1:12.5 depending on the age group, our teachers and assistants provide the individual attention necessary for your child to flourish. Our youngest learners and babies benefit from even higher levels of assistance to meet their unique needs.
Medical Care and Safety Excellence
Your child’s safety is our highest priority. In addition to our staff being trained in first aid, we are proud to have a registered nurse on-site to handle any health concerns. To ensure the highest standards of safety and compliance with national regulations, our medical team or first-aid officers will dispense medication only with a valid prescription from a medical doctor.
Classrooms as "Inanimate Teachers"
In line with the Curiosity Approach, our classrooms are designed to be tranquil, sensory-rich environments that act as teachers themselves. By moving away from restrictive plastic furniture and over-stimulating bright colours, we provide open play areas filled with natural elements. This calm atmosphere allows children to naturally gravitate toward themes that interest them. We also feature child-friendly bathrooms designed to make the transition from potty training to toilet training a positive and empowering experience.
Adventurous Outdoor Play
Our outdoor facilities are a world of discovery designed to promote physical health and gross motor development. Our play areas feature:
- Jungle gyms and playhouses
- A creative "mud kitchen" and messy play spaces
- A sandpit and an exciting bike track
- High-quality synthetic grass to prevent allergic reactions
To ensure your child's well-being, we monitor weather conditions closely, ensuring outdoor play takes place during moderate temperatures with full sun-safety measures in effect.
Discover the Curiosity Approach
Curro Bryanston is more than just a preschool; it is a space where children from 3 months to Grade R are invited to wonder, explore, and grow. Through our commitment to the Curiosity Approach, we ensure your child’s first educational steps are filled with joy and discovery.
